Hong Kong Cultures, Arts and Languages (HKCAL) is a UK-based research network dedicated to exploring and promoting the circulation, transformation, and creative expression of Hong Kong’s cultures across global contexts. Through events, collaborations, and research initiatives, HKCAL brings together scholars, artists, and cultural practitioners to engage with Hong Kong in motion.

[Call for Papers] SPARK: Postgraduate Lightning Talk Symposium

This upcoming symposium invites postgraduate researchers to share emerging work on Hong Kong cultures, arts, and languages. The event provides a supportive setting to test ideas, present work-in-progress, and engage with peers and experienced scholars across a range of disciplinary approaches.

Island Voices on the Move: Sinophone Research Forum

Our 2025 forum explored cultural expression and identity in the Hong Kong and Taiwan contexts through two interlinked workshops. Sessions addressed themes of language, media, diaspora, memory, and representations.
