
Sinophone Research Forum

We are excited to announce that in 2025, HKCAL will collaborate with the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds to host a joint workshop under the theme ‘Island Voices on the Move: Sinophone Research Forum.’
This three-day forum will explore the rich diversity of Sinophone communities worldwide, examining how cultural, artistic, and linguistic artefacts circulate across these communities, shaping identities and addressing issues of migration, marginalisation, and globalisation.
Workshop Overview
The forum includes two focused workshops:
Workshop on Hong Kong Cultures, Arts and Languages
Dates: 11–12 June 2025
This workshop welcomes papers on topics including:
- Hong Kong culture within and beyond the Sinophone world
- Indigenous cultures facing globalisation and political change
- Arts and urban narratives
- Language identity in multilingual Hong Kong
- Cultural and linguistic ties between Hong Kong and diasporic communities
- Reinterpreting cultural memory and heritage
Workshop on Taiwan
Dates: 13 June 2025
This workshop invites papers on topics including:
- Taiwan culture in any form within and beyond the Sinophone world
- Multilingualism and identity in contemporary Taiwan
